Braves Win!

1914 against the Philadelphia Athletics, 1957 against the New York Yankees, 1995 against the Cleveland Indians, and now in 2021 against the Houston Astros. The Braves beat the Astros 7-0 on November 2, 2021. In the 6th game of the World Series, the Braves brought home the first win since 1995, and Braves fans everywhere are beyond thrilled. The Friday following their victory, there would be a parade to celebrate our home team. This parade would run throughout Centennial Olympic Park, where the Olympics were once held, and also Truist Park, the home of the Braves. Gwinnett, Cobb, Fulton, DeKalb and Clayton counties along with Atlanta Public Schools and Marietta City Schools closed due to the traffic the parade would cause. Douglas County and the City of Decatur also announced they would give students the day off. Our school system, however, decided that since traffic would not interfere with its regularly scheduled school day, we would continue on as usual. The governor of Georgia even declared today, November 5th to be, “National Atlanta Braves Day” as he encouraged all fans and citizens of Georgia alike to wear their favorite Braves gear and attend the parade and festivities if possible. Northgate announced a similar notion.

Northgate posted to Instagram saying, “northgatevikings: We will be attending the parade in spirit tomorrow and cheering on from Valhalla. Tomorrow is Braves/Will Smith Day! Wear your favorite Braves gear and we will have trivia/prizes each block. Play along on Instagram!” On Instagram, they posted a series of questions about the Braves and Northgate Alum, Will Smith. The winner after each block received a prize for participating. Many students attended the parade and some 2022 seniors were even spotted on TV. Maddox Hill, Garrett Cathey, Hudson Orgeron, Kyle Moore, Evan Craig, and Isaac Ballard all went to the parade and were interviewed on live TV. Isaac Ballard said that they, “did not want to go to school and it’s also the first time the Braves have won the World Series in 26 years or maybe 25.” Go Vikings! We love to see our fellow students and classmates representing us in the big A. Go Vikes, go Braves, go Will Smith. We are all so proud of you.
