The Last Man Standing

This past week has been one of the most exciting in the music world in the past few months being release week from two phenomenal artists. Starting the week off with the Kanye release DONDA on all platforms being a surprise for fans and the artist himself. After the release of the article, social platforms went crazy, everyone taking their time to stream the album, finally relieving themselves of anticipation. In this moment it was joyous to many and disappointing to most, but that’s something that is expected of any form of art. An artist makes themselves vulnerable ultimately to the world, allowing them to judge and analyze their minds, revealing themselves to strangers. Just as Kanye did that his audience jumped to give their understanding of what he was trying to say, some pull towards Kanye’s mother and her passing while others prefer to turn to conspiracy theories. From his lyrics, to his visuals at his listening parties fans have truly been thrilled when attempt crack the codes. One of the main statements definitely being about Kanye reliving the entire passing of his mother and his attempt to put his feelings into words. Of course, the artist has been through a lot, and he shows that very openly, but through the album, it seems the artist may be going down a brighter path. With the success, the album has done there should be more than enough pride and honor for Kanye to carry. Despite the media and fans, the album broke the record for the most streams in  24 hours, receiving 60 million streams on music platforms and shooting to the number one spot on the top 100 in the first 5 days after the release.

As for the second release, Drake released his album Certified Lover Boy on September 2, 2021, it being his sixth studio album to date. His album has been out for a shorter amount of time, but that’s not as affectant with the numbers the album is doing, breaking a record for the most streams on spotify within its 24 hour release date. The album features an array of great features from smaller artists such as the r&b singer Giveon, to bigger artists such as Lil Wayne, all and all the use of the varying artist’s talents to the message Drake was delivering correlated well and is doing well in the media. Fans of Drake’s making different forms of memes and supporting the albums vastly, streaming day and night. Bigger artists such as Dj Funk Flex showing his support to the album and the artist himself, making the very big statement that Drake was the “greatest rapper of all time.” Overall, the album has one phenomenal throughout its first two days after it was released and is bound to be an ultimate success.

In spite of it all, the music community has been fed once again, from two different artists. The two different projects definitely give listeners something to pick apart. Ultimately the week has provided nothing but new experiences and new sounds for everyone to enjoy.
