Homecoming is approaching fast, so that means it’s time to get school spirit on. Homecoming is more than just a dance. There are so many things that come along with it like, spirit week and the infamous football game.
Homecoming week is the week before the big dance. This is the week students are given different themes to dress up as. It’s a chance for all Vikings to show off their school spirit. This year’s themes are nerds vs. jock, country club vs. country, superhero vs. villains, and upperclassmen vs. underclassmen. In these hard times, homecoming is a break from all that and a chance to have fun with friends. The week before the dance is to get students hyped up for the football game and then for the dance. The teachers usually go all out on the themes, so students need to rise up to the challenge. As a student, it is a job to support Northgate and dress up for the themes.
The infamous football game is the ultimate way to show school spirit by supporting Vikings. It is a time where all the students can come together and celebrate with their other classmates. This year’s homecoming game theme is the decades. Each grade level was given a different one. For the seniors, it’s the 80’s, juniors it’s the 70’s, the sophomores it’s the 60’s, and last but not least, the freshman are doing the 50’s. There are only four other home games, so make sure to show up and show spirit.
Who doesn’t love to get dressed up? The homecoming dance is like a welcome back to school party, where there is a week of exciting events leading up to it. So, put on a sparkly dress, and guys, put on something nice too, and celebrate!
Homecoming hasn’t happened in the past two years because of COVID-19. This year hopefully, it will continue on schedule. There have been rumors that because of Covid that the dance will be canceled, but there is a high expectation this year will be better.
