Selena Gomez Wears Her Kidney Transplant Scar Confidently

On Thursday, Selena Gomez, singer and founder of Rare Beauty, posted a photo on Instagram of herself strutting in a blue one piece bathing suit. Gomez shared with her audience about how she finally feels confident about her scar and feels proud enough to show it. Gomez also shares that she wears her scar with pride.

Gomez went through a hard and difficult time when she had her kidney transplant back in 2017 after she had complications due to Lupus, an autoimmune disease that causes harm to organs and tissues. Her longtime best friend, Francia Raisa, volunteered to donate her kidney to Gomez when she learned that the transplant list goes for up to 7 to 10 years and Gomez was gonna be on it. Once Raisa tested to ensure that her kidney was a match for Gomez, they went into surgery. However, Raisa’s kidney started to take a turn for the worse and Gomez tore  an artery. The scar Gomez is proudly showing is from an emergency procedure where they had to get a vein from her leg and build a new artery in order to save the kidney.

Gomez, in the photo, poses with her right leg propped up on a rock to show everyone the scar of her emergency kidney surgery. Gomez shared with her fans how before she would always try to hide it by wearing things that would ensure it was being covered and how difficult it was for her to show it and talk about it.  However, now she is fully confident showing the world just how strong she is and she is more than proud of it.

The post on Instagram gained over 7 million likes in just a day of it being posted. Her fans, friends, and family showered her with plenty of support and applauded her for her extreme bravery.
