Early Wednesday morning, 39 bodies were found in the body of a large truck in Grays, England. Among the deceased, there were 38 adults and one teenager. The timeline shows the truck arrived in Purfleet, England around 1:00 AM on Wednesday via Zeebrugge (a Belgian port city). After verifying the victims were dead, ambulance workers contacted authorities by 1:40 and requested them to the Waterglade Industrial Park in Eastern Avenue.

Police have arrested the driver of the truck Morris Robinson, 25-year-old resident of Northern Ireland. A murder investigation has been launched and Robinson is currently the primary suspect. Authorities declined to comment on Robinson’s identity, but the local councillor for Armagh (Robinson’s hometown) confirmed his identity to CNN and said that the Robinson family was deeply distraught.

A Dutch driver was arrested for and convicted of manslaughter in 2001 after 58 Chinese immigrants suffocated in the container of his tomato truck in the U.K. Migrant smuggling has been of particular concern to British authorities recently, and the discovery of these 39 bodies came just days after an investigation in Essex. The nationalities of the deceased are currently unknown, but police have confirmed that they are treating their deaths as a product of migrant smuggling.
