On Saturday, August 3rd, Atlanta United fans came together to top their own regular-season attendance record. The record was broken during a 3-0 win against a strong LA Galaxy side. They beat their record of 72,243 by 305 tickets making it 72,548 tickets sold! The new achievement means that Atlanta now holds the top 9 MLS Regular Season Attendance records. That combined with the top 4 MLS Cup records and the US Open Cup record means Atlanta hold 13 top attendance records.

I attended the game on Saturday as a birthday gift and it was enthralling. The roar of the crowd never died down even when the game came to a close at the half. The bizarre thing about the game was the fact that Atlanta only scored one goal, but they won 3-0. The other 2 goals were shots from respected Atlanta players, Pity and Josef Martinez, which deflected off two different LA Galaxy players. Josef Martinez made it 3-0 by slotting in a penalty.

Perhaps (other than the game itself) the attraction of the day was the all-new stadium-wide tifo that boasted the words, “FOREVER UNITED”

Thanks to the win, Atlanta currently sits in second place in the Eastern Conference with one game in hand against conference-leading side, Philadelphia Union.

Wednesday night, Atlanta United beat “rivals” Orlando City 2-0 to progress onto the US Open Cup Final. I say “rivals” because Orlando has never beaten Atlanta… Ever. Goals came from Eric Remedi and Emerson Hyndman. The opponent for the final is going to be Minnesota United. The final will be played on the 27th at Mercedes Benz Stadium. If Atlanta wins the US Open Cup Final, they could have their third trophy in the books. Now you may be asking, third? Well, yes because of the Campeones Cup. The Campeones Cup takes place August the 14th between Atlanta United and Club America. The winner of this game receives a trophy and is acclaimed as the best club of North and Central America for a year. If Atlanta can pull off that win, they will earn their 2nd trophy, winning the US Open Cup would make it three. They can end up with 5 trophies by the end of this year, if they win the community shield and the MLS Cup. The community shield isn’t looking very likely though, as LAFC leads the race for that. The MLS Cup is still very likely though.
