Victoria’s Secret recently welcomed a transgender angel to their team. The new angel was welcomed a year after the company underwent extreme criticism after an executive stated that he did not think a transgender model should be walking in the company’s annual lingerie fashion show because it is a “fantasy.”

Valentina Sampaio posted a picture to her Instagram of her getting ready for a Victoria’s Secret photo shoot. The model from Brazil posted the photo with the caption “Backstage, click,” with the hashtag following “diversity.” After seeing the photo, many customers of the brand were shocked and happy to find out about the addition of the new model. Many other models were very supportive of the new model and her new deal with the company. Another Brazilian model, Lais Ribeiro, tweeted about the model and how she was ”so happy.”

This is not Valentina Sampaio’s first time being the first transgender model for a big brand company, and it is not the first time she has been shot for a well-known company. Sampaio was also the first transgender model for Vogue. She posed for Vogue Paris in 2017.

Ed Razek, the executive under fire for making the offensive comments, has since apologized and attempted to clarify what his original intentions were in his comments.
