Last Thursday in Middletown, Ohio, an 8-year-old boy became a hero as he made a quick decision that saved himself and his sister from a kidnapper. The two children were riding in the backseat of their grandmother’s vehicle while she drove a woman to the emergency room. The grandmother began to help the woman into the waiting room, and in a mere ten seconds a man had entered her car and began to drive off.

The boy, who has been identified as Chance, opened the door of the car to jump out with his sister (Skylar) following behind him, but the man reached into the backseat and grabbed the hood of Skylar’s sweatshirt. Chance grabbed onto her and yanked her out of the assailant’s grip, sending them both tumbling out of the moving vehicle. Surveillance video shows the children’s grandmother holding onto the handle of the car and being dragged along with it as she desperately tried to save her grandchildren.

Not long after, police spotted the stolen car and apprehended the man, Dalvir Singh. He has been charged with two counts of kidnapping, felonious assault, and grand theft. Middletown Police are still shocked by the child’s bravery and have announced that they plan to honor Chance for his heroic decision.
