A United Arab Emirates woman wakes up from a coma after 27 years. Murina Abdulla was 32 at the time of her life-threatening accident in 1991. She slipped into the coma and suffered from a severe brain injury after her car collided with a bus on her way to pick up her son.

Omar Webair, Abdullah’s four year-old son at the time, was sitting in the backseat  and was left without a scar after the accident due to his mother cradling him in her arms just before the accident. The car was being driven by Abdullah’s brother-in-law. Ms. Abdullah was brought into a hospital severely injured.

Omar, Abdullah’s son has recently spoken about the accident regarding his mother risking her life to protect his. “She hugged me to protect me” said Omar to UAE-based newspaper. Omar states that the only reason he shares and spreads his mother’s story is to tell people not to lose hope on loved ones in comas. “Don’t consider them dead when they are in such a date,” He added.
There are only a few cases like Ms. Abdullah’s. Not many people get into such comas for so long and miraculously wake up. “It is impossible to predict the chances of someone in a state of impaired consciousness improving,” says the UK’s National Health Service.
