Heidi Klum said it best when she stated, “I think it’s important to get your surroundings as well as yourself into a positive state – meaning surround yourself with positive people, not the kind who are negative and jealous of everything you do.” Jealousy is a force that can ruin any type of relationship. Daily, jealousy breaks apart marriages, friendships, and family members. It’s not like anyone wants to get jealous, so why does it happen?

Jealousy can spring from several factors: previous loss and abandonment, fear of being replaced, envy, longing to have another’s belongings, personal trust issues, etc. Because of the never ending causes of jealousy, it seems hard to control at times. How exactly can someone stop jealousy before it over takes them?

It has been my experience that the best way to deal with jealousy is trust, security, and reassurance practices. At the end of the day, you don’t want to lose the person you’re jealous of because jealousy typically only applies to people you care for. The assurance of spending one on one time with that person and talking through your feelings is probably the best way to handle the situation.

If you ever let jealousy overtake you, you can become acidic and unhealthy. If you surround yourself with overly jealous people, the same will occur. Jealousy is a feeling that everyone gets from time to time, and as long as it’s dealt with properly and accordingly, everything will be okay. If you let it overtake you, you will lose your relationship.
