Netflix has been releasing a series of Chinese dramas such as, Please Take My Brother Away, Mr.Sunshine, and A Love So Beautiful. Even though these dramas are interesting, Meteor Garden has stolen the spotlight. The show is based on the manga Boys over Flowers by Yoko Kamio. The show first aired in April 2001, but Netflix revamped the series with better actors, special effects, and storyline. This time it has almost twice as many episodes as before with 48, 50-minute chapters.

The drama follows Dong Shancai, a college sophomore attending Mingde University with a stubborn will and kind heart. Her childhood friends, Qinghe and Xiaoyou, accompany her on encounters with the infamous senior group, F4. Daoming Si, the leader of F4 and heir to the rich Daoming franchise, is a hot-tempered and arrogant being who believes money can buy everything. After her phone is crushed by Si, Shancai tells him off and demands that he pay for her phone. However, Si sees no reason to comply with her demands and constantly toys with her throughout the rest of the semester. Eventually, Si invites Shancai to his house and claims that he will not only pay for the phone, but buy anything she desires if she agrees to be his girlfriend. Shancai declines the offer, thus beginning the love-hate relationship between the two.

The series takes its viewer on a feelgood roller coaster. Although the episodes are long, they seem to end in an instant with all the action and story throughout each one. In my opinion, Si and Shancai should have started dating sooner, and Shancai should of been clear about her feelings for Si. However, not all episodes focus on Si and Shancai, and develop background history for supporting characters. Nonetheless, the series overall is a 9/10!
