Matt Lauer, co-anchor of of the popular morning program “Today Show,” was fired after being accused of “inappropriate sexual behavior.” Lauer was informed of the network’s decision to fire him on Tuesday night, November 28th.

NBC News chairman Andrew Lack said in a memo to the staff that the complaint was filed on Monday night, November 27th. Lack said that it was the first complaint against Lauer during his career at the network, but that they also “were presented with reason to believe that this may not have been an isolated incident.” Lack and other NBC executives have known for weeks that potentially damaging stories could be coming out. An NBC spokesperson declined to comment further than the info in Lack’s memo.

Lauer is only the latest in a string of famous men to be brought down by claims of inappropriate sexual behavior, one that started with Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. Since, actors Kevin Spacey and Louis C.K. have been removed from projects after similar allegations, and other prominent figures in journalism, such as Mark Halperin and Michael Oreskes have been fired or suspended.

Lauer was an extremely prominent figure in television, and his co-hosts say, while they do not condone his actions, they are sad to see him go.
