Jay-Z’s label, ROC Nation, just added a new member to their family! The recording company that is home to such names as, Lil Wayne, J. Cole, DJ Mustard, Rihanna, etc. officially announced the addition of Korean-American singer, Jay Park, this summer. Park’s addition to ROC Nation was in the works for a while, but not confirmed until just recently. Although this is the first time he’s signed with an American label, Jay Park is no stranger to the music business itself.

Park Jae Beom was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, but moved to South Korea to train and be a part of the popular Korean boy group, 2pm. After some momentary mishaps and scandals, Park’s contract was eventually terminated by his recording company at the time and he left 2pm. In 2011 Park began his venture into his successful solo career as a K-Hip Hop artist before starting his own company, AOMG, with help from his friend/producer Cha Cha Malone.

Park’s style of music usually includes hip hop and r&b based sounds, although he also incorporates many different genres in his music, including electronic, acoustic, etc. singing in both English and Korean. He’s released hit after hit in South Korea over the years, and although new to the American music industry, he is a very well known figure in the Kpop/Hip Hop community. He’s known for his songs such as “Joah,” “All I Wanna Do,” “Me Like Yuh,” “Solo,” etc. His addition to ROC Nation is seen as not only a major milestone for Kpop/Hip Hop, but for Asian artists in general, as they are generally very underrepresented in the American entertainment industry today.
