The Lady Vikings volleyball team is getting ready for their new season and they are already off to a great start. On Saturday August 5th, the Lady Vikings traveled to Dacula High School to play in the first tournament of the season, pulling out a first place win.

In addition to starting a new season, the JV team welcomes Nakeshia Nelson as the head coach and Mary Grace McCord returned as an assistant coach. Another aspect that is new to the volleyball program is the ninth grade team. Head coach Sheila Walker decided to create the new team because of the volleyball program’s recent growth. “There [were] a lot of talented girls trying out.” stated Walker. She continues to explain that having this opportunity makes her players stronger by getting more touches on the ball, and therefore strengthening the program overall.

Last season, the vikings won the area championship for the second year in a row and made their way into the Elite 8, but fell to Alpharetta High School, ending the 2016 season. “I’m looking forward with hope to winning county, area, to make our way to the Elite 8 once more, and hopefully go beyond.” explained Coach Walker.

“I expect my girls to have leadership on the court as well as off the court,” says Walker, “I also expect them to work hard, have good work ethic, great energy, and to give me 110% percent.” She also has expectations for her players when they are off the court as well, such as being good role models and going out of their way to be kind to others.
